ComplOrg, or in full the Compliance Organization Maturity Model, is based on the concept that as organizations mature, their compliance function needs to adapt to cope with the increasing demand of key stakeholders. If a compliance function or an individual compliance domain fails in this process, the organization may face regulatory non-compliance, increased risks, stakeholder scrutiny and cost of capital, and inefficient and burdensome compliance efforts. A maturing compliance function does not necessarily mean increased headcount and costs.

The ComplOrg maturity model was built by Peter Gaspar following an international journey of 20+ years across multiple compliance domains including data privacy, information security, anti-corruption and fraud, commercial contract compliance, and financial reporting. As the founder of Tesla’s global data privacy function and the leader of Coupa Software’s global data protection team, ComplOrg has been applied in real-life settings guiding the development of compliance domains.
